Rose Festival Second Weekend Features First Big Parade In Three Years
CareOregon Starlight Parade Highlights Weekend of Gear Heads, Cowboys and Runners Wearing Tutus
Rose Festival second weekend kicks it into high gear with the return of NASCAR to Portland International Raceway, for a two-day race event Friday and Saturday. Following that, the CareOregon Starlight Parade steps off at a new time, and new direction through downtown Portland, Saturday, June 4 (at 7:30 p.m.) and fans can get their cowboy on, with the popular 98.7 The Bull CountryFest, capping it off Sunday, with the return of Paramlee, and featuring rising star Blanco Brown.
The Pacific Office Automation 147, a NASCAR Xfinity Series race visiting Portland International Raceway (at PIR, 1940 N Victory Boulevard, Portland) June 3-4, 2022, is a highlight event of the Portland Rose Festival’s Rose City Reunion. The race weekend will generate millions of dollars in economic impact during the middle weekend of the Portland Rose Festival. This nationally-televised motorsports event features the return of a NASCAR national series to the Pacific Northwest for the first time in over two decades. (Tickets available at RoseFestival.org.)
CityFair weekend opens at 12:00 noon Friday, June 3, and will feature a free-with-admission concert at 6:00 p.m.: Caribbean Night with Conjunto Alegre in the RoZone. Saturday morning the American Heart Association Heart & Stroke Walk, invites walkers to help fight heart disease by taking a walk along the waterfront at 9:00 a.m. (CityFair hours are 12:00 noon to 9:00 p.m. Friday through Sunday.)
The pace picks up Saturday evening, as the annual Starlight Run warms up the parade crowd with the popular costumed fun-run starting at 6:00 p.m., followed by the CareOregon Starlight Parade stepping off at 7:30 p.m., next to CityFair on Naito Parkway (televised live on FOX 12 Oregon at 8:30 p.m.).
CareOregon Starlight Parade highlights include honoring those that-got-us-here as Grand Marshals: The leaders of the Portland Rose Society, Royal Rosarians and Portland Rose Festival, that helped keep the Rose Festival going through the pandemic years. Special guests include social media celebrities The Gay Beards.
CityFair Weekend closes out with 98.7 The Bull Countryfest, Sunday, June 5, beginning at 3:00 p.m. on the Dick’s Auto Group Stage, featuring popular artist Parmalee, Tenille Arts, Priscilla Block and breakout star Blanco Brown. This concert requires a separate ticket purchase. (Tickets can be purchased at RoseFestival.org.)
