When pandemic conditions said that Portland Parades couldn't celebrate the people, then the people said they would celebrate Portland Parades! In 2020, the Rose Festival invited Portland residents to decorate their porches and gardens, and hundreds did. The Rose Festival Porch Parade became so popular, that festivals across America copied it with their own branding! The Rose Festival is looking to make this year's Porch Parade bigger and more inclusive than ever, and thanks to our generous sponsors there will be prizes this year.
America's Original Porch Parade is expanding in 2021, to also showcase Portland Businesses along with homes. "We are happy to partner with
Venture Portland, a non-profit that supports all 50 of Portland's neighborhood business districts in an effort to help small, local business all over the city through decorating storefronts in the spirit of Portland's Official Festival," said Jeff Curtis, Portland Rose Festival CEO.
The second annual Rose Festival Porch Parade will be on display May 31 - June 13, 2021. Registration is free, and open at this site. Residents are encouraged to use the hashtag #PickmyPorch on social media with photos of their curbside décor. This website features inspiration for those who are looking for ideas on how to decorate. Residential decorations will be judged, and a sweepstakes prize of two round trip tickets anywhere Alaska Airlines flies will be awarded for best representations of the Rose Festival's three premier parades: the Spirit Mountain Casino Grand Floral Parade, the Portland General Electric/SOLVE Starlight Parade, and the Fred Meyer Junior Parade. Homeowners can use social media to draw attention to their porch with the hashtag #PickmyPorch and tag @PDXRoseFestival.
