SOLUTION: This clue references Owen Murray, an Irish immigrant who settled in the area now known as Cedar Mill. The land he once owned is now known as the Sunset Mall. His son, Joe, was an eccentric person who had to sell the farm to pay his debts.
Murray Road is named after Owen – stay west of it.

To improve your plan, you’ll need to obtain the code.
But you don’t need another four digits to find the treasure’s abode.
It could be for your eyes only with determined success
Decipher this clue and become Dr. Yes.

SOLUTION: Code plays a double meaning here. This clue references Zone Improvement Plan codes, what we now know as ZIPcodes. As Portland has zip codes that begin with 97, this clue points to the last three numbers (as you can ignore the ZIP + 4 for this clue). The last two lines have two references to James Bond movies (For Your Eyes Only, Dr. No). 007 is the famous code number for Bond. This means that 97007 is the zip code in which the treasure is hidden.

But you’ll elevate your hunt at a higher level
than Portland’s home for curvy bills and sharp quills

SOLUTION: The Oregon Zoo, which is the only place in Portland to find hornbills and porcupines, has elevations between 597-744 feet; the treasure is located at Winkelman Park on Cooper Mountain, which is approximately 720 feet in elevation. Cooper Mountain’s elevation, even at its highest points, is much lower than Cooper Spur of Mount Hood or even most of the West Hills.

The district had quite the hassle
Adding another site to get a tassel
Meetings were had, folks were sad
But the process ended with a brand new pad.
A maverick will narrow this down – don’t be late
But think about the name first given by forty eight.

SOLUTION: This clue references Mountainside High School, the newest high school in the Beaverton School District (48J). Over the last decade, the addition of the high school caused a number of redistricting meetings with significant tension, but eventually decisions were made and Mountainside opened. The mascot for the HS is the Maverick, and its original name was South Cooper Mountain HS – Cooper Mountain Nature Park is on the south side of the mountain.

SOLUTION: In 1979, activists created what is widely considered to be the first dog park in People’s Park near UC-Berkeley. The site of numerous protests during the 60s and 70s.The last two lines have numerous dog puns. Winkelman Park is home to one of three dog parks in THPRD and the only one in the search area already identified.

SOLUTION: Winkelman Park was donated to THPRD by Paul and Verna Winkelman in 1998. But it was not ready yet to be a park – it needed many improvements before that point. Those improvements were funded by Bond Measure 34-156, passed in an election on November 4, 2008, the same night that Barack Obama (Renegade) won election to the US Presidency.
The parking lot in Winkelman has distinctive PVC pipes on the chain link fences. Count 34 on the west side, and the treasure is within ten feet. The first set of chains on the west side has two pipes instead of one.
